Svalbard The Polar Bear Adventure

The Quest

 August 5 – 15th, 2020

It’s time once again to book one of our most popular trips.  I am joined by Master Photographer and friend Peter Eastway.  Together we will lead you on an adventure of a lifetime as we traverse the Svalbard Polar Region on the quest to spot and photograph polar bears as well as other wildlife including walruses.  We will also witness glaciers and incredible landscapes.  We will have complete info available soon.  Mark your calendar and drop me an email if you are interested in joining this workshop [email protected].

Palouse Harvest Tour 2019

Mark your calendar for August 12 – 17, 2019 for an incredible tour of the Palouse during the wheat harvest.  This is such a cool time to visit the Palouse.  The Harvest is about a landscape turned gold with rolling hills of wheat ready to be harvested.  The landscape is unique and dynamic as it changes every day.  This provides us exceptional opportunities to get the best images.  We will be out from dawn to dusk shooting and along the way enjoying wonderful meals and local culture.  This is a 4 person workshop so you’ll have plenty of one on one time with me.  We’ll visit places other workshops can’t go.  And more than anything else we will have a lot of od fun doing it.  So, sign up today and take a magical trip through the Palouse during the harvest.  Hope you can make it.

Palouse Summer Tour One Set Left

Classic Rolling hills

If you haven’t visited the Palouse in the summer you’re missing a rare treat.  This is one of my favorite areas in America to do photography.  It’s not a National Park or a place with scenic overlooks.  It’s an area of rolling green hills that take on new dimensions with the shadows of clouds and early and late day light.  We chase the light.  While I know a ton of good locations since I have been coming to the region since 2005 I am still finding new gems. This a four-person workshop where we travel where other workshops can’t go in our suburban 4wd vehicle.  Except for airfare to Spokane, everything else is included.  Your hotel, transportation, and all meals are part of the price.  I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.  I have one spot left for this trip and still have an opening for our Harvest Time trip in August.  Check them out.  If you have questions, let me know.

It’s Been Way Too Long

August 5 -15th 2020 – Aboard The Quest

We are back and bigger than ever.  Exciting times.  So far this year we have had two great workshops.  One in Japan and one in Antarctica.  Our next workshops start this summer in the Palouse.

As you may know, we used to facilitate workshops for Luminous Landscape.  At the beginning of this year, we have separated from LuLa and in addition, myself and the rest of my team there have joined me on a new venture to launch a new website for photographers photoPXL.com.  This is an exciting project and we have a dream of making this site the go-to place for all of those that have a serious interest in photography.  If you go to photoPXL.com you can sign up to be notified when we are ready to launch the site.

The Site

As you can see but maybe not in details the site will look different than what we were used to before.  We have done a lot of engineering so you can find the content that appeals to you the most.  We’ll have a lot of other cool feature too that we will highlight in future posts. We expect to launch our new site this May.  If you are interested you can sign up at photopxl.com to be notified.  In the meantime, we will be posting more often here and letting everyone know about our new workshops that are coming or soon to take place.

Back From Iceland

I am now back in the office and in catch up mode.  The Luminous-Landscape workshop I just finished running in Iceland was a success.  I did this workshop with my long time friend Daniel Bergmann who is one of the premier guides for Iceland.  He is also a great photographer and wildlife expert.

Iceland has gotten quite crowded with tourists over the last several years.  While this is good for the country economically it is a burden on many visitors as there are now so many people.  On our trips, we won’t even go near the tourist spots.  Too many buses and crazy people.  Instead, we travel to the remote and more picturesque areas of Iceland that tourists don’t visit.   This year we visited some places I haven’t visited before.  The bottom line if I came home with a ton of nice images.  Some of which I share below.

I used a Fuji XT2 with a wide variety of lenses to capture these photos.

Phase One Joins The New Zealand Workshop

P1 square for blog

To make our workshop New Zealand even more appealing, Phase One has come aboard and will offer any attendee who would like the opportunity to shoot with a Phase One camera during the workshop.  They will provide a complete camera system along with a bank of Phase One lenses, at no charge.  This is a unique opportunity to capture these amazing landscape locations with a state of the art medium format camera.  If you have never experienced a file from a Phase One system you’ll be in for a real surprise.  A Phase One representative will be on the workshop to make sure you experience the most from this opportunity.

The Palouse Workshop is underway.  This workshop is a PODAS workshop facilitated by Rockhopper Workshops and Luminous-Landscape.  What this means is that Phase One is providing everyone on the workshop a camera system to use plus classroom tutorials on the Capture One workflow.  We have a great line up of attendees. Kevin Raber and Jeff Schewe are instructors.  Andrew Warman from Phase One is providing technical and logistical support.   Check back through out the week as we update the blog with our activities during this workshop.

Michael Reichmann Returns To Antarctica

Michael Reichmann

Michael Reichmann

We have two photographic expeditions to Antarctica this coming winter, January 26 – February 4, 2015 and January 31 – February 9, 2015. These will be lead by Kevin Raber and five of the world’s greatest instructor / photographers; Art Wolfe, Christian Fletcher, Charlie Cramer, Joe Cornish. Katrin Eismann and Jackie Ranken.

Now, due to a change of scheduling, Michael Reichmann, founder of Luminous-landscape and the Luminous-Endowment is able to join both expeditions as instructor and traveling companion, his fifth and sixth voyages to Antarctica.

If you’ve always wanted to work with Michael, and wish to do so on a photographic trip that is as close to visiting another planet as any of us will ever get, then grab one of the few remaining places on one of these voyages.

This is the chance of a lifetime.
